I am a believer in the beauty of understatement. For me, good architecture is less about impressing your neighbours and more about matching your personal needs. What I really love about my work is identifying your everyday routines and rituals to find out what matters most to you and what you are passionate about. I can then directly apply this vital information to the concept and layout of your home – creating a space that not only functions perfectly but feels like it is a part of you, everyday for years to come.
My European roots help me to appreciate the ‘aesthetics of proportion’, ‘practical design’ and ‘generous compactness’. I am also an advocate for the use of natural and healthy (non-toxic) materials.
I believe the most beautiful building materials can be found in nature. The textures of wood, earth, vegetation and plain metals have a timelessness perfection that will never be out of date. They also seem so much more alive than artificial materials. Likewise, a cleverly connected and established garden can breathe life and soul into a home. Have you ever noticed that some of the most beautiful houses owe a lot to the setting they are nestled into? It is surprisingly easy to create a space that feels alive, welcoming and healthy.
