This boomerang shaped house faces due north and creates a sheltered herb garden and quiet sanctuary within it’s inner bow. Located close to the waterfront of Coningham Beach this home takes in amazing mountain and water views. A separate studio provides a flexible multi-purpose area for the owner’s changing needs.
Passive Energy Design
A dark tiled concrete slab with windows located from north-east to north-west absorb the sun’s energy for most of the day. The thick sandstone walls provide additional thermal mass inside the building.
Materials
Locally sourced sandstone was used to create 1 foot deep external and internal walls in various part of the house.
The recycled timber kitchen was crafted by well known Bruny Island kitchen maker Bernd Farasin.
